Thankful Thursday – My Friend

And the scripture was fulfilled that says, “Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness,” [ Gen. 15:6] and he was called God’s friend.

James 2:23

I have been thinking about my relationship with God. Since I got to know Him some years ago, He has filled several positions in my life: Father, Teacher, Master, Comforter and others I can’t even remember. But the one which has been constant has been that of friend. There is no one I’d rather talk to.

Last week, my friend came over to spend some time with me. We found ourselves with a dilemma on our hands – there was this guy she was is crazy about…. Anyway, the question was ‘how do you handle a guy who likes you but is playing hard to get?’ (We’re 27 so it’s that age). Both our mom’s are far away and I was stumped. I didn’t have the right advice to give her so I suggested we prayed. And we did – just handed it over to God, our big friend. That is such a privilege and I’m grateful that I can do that.

When I think of God, this song by Women of Faith reverbrates through my whole being

I am a friend of God,

I am a friend of God,

I am a friend of God,

He calls me Friend!

I do not have even an atom of Abraham’s faith, yet God still calls me his friend.

This week I am thankful:

  • That despite my many many imperfections, God still calls me friend;
  • For Jesus Christ who has made the above possible;
  • For Iris who has given me this opportunity to express my gratitude to God;
  • For friends I’ve made through blogging.

  6. I think it’s great that you lift your friend’s “heart” concern to God….because it’s true that God is our friend. And isn’t it marvelous that no matter who we are, we are still loved by God.

  7. I loved your list. When moms aren’t around, isn’t it great to know that we can call on the Lord for absolutely anything!!! I know there is something sweet about mom’s advice also. Thank you for the visit. Your blog is precious and I love the coffee quote on the side 🙂 Made my evening. Have a blessed weekend. I’ll be back to visit 🙂

  10. You are right…it is wonderful to know that our God calls us friend, despite our imperfections, we are made perfect through His Son, our Lord 🙂
    Neat that you and your friend got together to pray over this issue. I know that God will give your friend wisdom in this situation.
    Thank you so much for sharing your grateful heart with us this week.

  11. That song takes on a whole new meaning when you really understand that “God is our Friend”. I love when a song becomes a real life experience instead of just words coming out of our mouths!

    Thanks for visiting my blog, I have enjoyed stopping by yours today!!

    Kelley

    ~Hi Kelley, I’m glad you enjoyed your visit, do come again hmm? Thanks for the comment too, God bless

  12. You know I love to see your comments! The coolest thing ever is being able to call Him friend – and to know that He calls you the same. Hav a great day!

    Rosheeda

    ~Hey Rosheeda, yea, its just so cool! Thanks for the visit…and the comment.

    Sharon~

  13. Once again, a well written post I adore.

    I can identify with your first TT – “That despite my many many imperfections, God still calls me friend”. It reminds me of the old hymn, “What a Friend We Have In Jesus”. We forfeit peace in our lives when we don’t take our concerns to Him in prayer.

    Thank you for this beautiful reminder.

    ~Oh I love that hymn! It’s one of my family favourites…
    Thank you so much for your sweet and encouraging comment. God bless you real good!

  14. Hi Sharon,

    How I love that song “I am a Friend of God” and what a privilege that He calls us Friend! I am truly aMazed that you thought of calling on Jesus, our Friend in all times, with your friend at such a time as this…but so enjoyed that your relationship with Him is so close that you can call on HIM like even you noted, your mom(not being close enough to talk with). You truly invited Jesus to be a part in this decision with you friend. So what did HE say?(LOL)

    No…truly. You wrote this Thankful Thursday like a true friend. I love how you have seen Jesus in so many roles but you never forget the one that was needed most FRIEND! I am so glad He is your friend and mine.(and must be for your friend) just like Abraham. Great connection though you say not even an atom of faith like HIS…it’s clear your faith and friendship are built on the SOLID ROCK! I so glad you turn to HIM! Keep it up in every circumstance for HE IS THERE as FRIEND, Comforter, Healer, Master, Teacher and Father…remember HIM on Father’s Day…with a grateful heart and song like this!!! Be blessed as you have blessed me & thanks for the visit & comment! RESERVOIR is a very intriguing name! Like it!

    ~Hi Peggy,
    Thank you so much for the intersting comment – loved reading it. Hmmm…where do I start? OK my friend and I…What did HE say? Er…I’ll have to get back to you about that. (Wink)

    I really don’t know how to reply to this comment…all I can say is that I really feel encouraged. I’ll get back to you.
    Love,
    Sharon~

  15. “so I suggested we prayed.”….

    There is your answer! You are so on the right track. Go right to the one with the answers and join together in agreement with a friend. Now, wait for the answer. What could be more simple? How can you lose?

    Do you know how few people just stop and say, “let’s pray” ?

    Good for you!
    God bless,

    ~Hey Jen, thanks so much for the sweet comment! Just reading it I feel so good with myself – like a really smart kid. Your children have a great mom. Come by anytime, maybe we’ll share a virtual cup of coffee. lol
